What is the legacy, although they stage the golf events in Europe? Is it that they vanish from relevance after being center of the golf globe shortly?
These are questions worth considering which Le Golf National plays host to the French Open for the first time since the thumping victory over the USA of the continent just over a year ago.
1 thing is for certain, this functioning of their national Open in continental Europe will not be as expansive as the Opens that preceded the 2018 Ryder Cup.
The tournament has been changed by a prime position in the schedule in the end of June and its now worth just #1.4m compared with the #5.6m handbag that has been played for last year.
Make no mistake, there will nonetheless be golf on show. The scramble to store cards qualify for the Rush to Dubai finale is intensifying.
And also the likes of Jose Maria Olazabal, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Bjorn and Jamie Donaldson incorporate some stardust.
However, when Alex Noren won 15 weeks he beat a field that included defending champion Tommy Fleetwood giants Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, US celebrity Justin Thomas and Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter.
Bjorn contributes as one of the chief playing attractions rather than main strategist for an extraordinary triumph to the scene of the tumultuous success of his team.
This 171/2-101/2 win generated lifelong memories and scenes to inspire future generations. The course – set up perfectly to match the home club – and the prime place around Paris played huge parts in making for golfing.
But it feels like many places that staged home matches into obscurity for Europe may be followed by Le Golf National. Courses which were once principles on the circuit have faded from significance.
The Belfry hosted the Ryder Cup and whatever you consider this course, which will have its founders, that the first design from the English midlands turned into a huge portion of the cloth of European golfing history.
But the Brabazon Course has not staged a Tour event as the 2008 Specialists. Celtic Manor in Wales disappeared following the Ryder Cup, four decades from the program from 2014.
The K Club, which hosted the 2006 match in County Kildare, has been the European Open between 1995 and 2007s home. When the Irish Open was held by it it disappeared from the calendar aside from in 2016.
Gleneagles staged the 2018 European Team Championships and this years Solheim Cup but its own deal expired the season before placing to the 2014 Ryder Cup.
Just Valderrama (1997 Ryder Cup) in southern Spain has remained a standard stop for the continents top players in the wake of holding one of the biennial jousts between Europe and the United States.
Therefore the portents are not good for Le Golf National, especially at a time when the worth of their French Open has diminished.
The French Federation signed a 12-year bargain that would have taken them to 2022 with the tournament being guaranteed to be worth a minimum of euros.
This crashed with the loss of host Alstom, however, with conglomerate HNA a rewarding deal was landed by the European Tour for 2016. The agreement values 25m euros appeared to fasten the top-level status of the event.
But that deal fell through departing this historic tournament to warrant a spot at the tour Rolex Series. So now it stays in this October date detached in the limelight it formerly commanded.
The change of date is acceptable, the biggest tournaments should have the very best dates, Pascal Grizot, president of Frances 2018 Ryder Cup committee, confessed to LEquipe this past calendar year.
Nevertheless, the official questioned the European Tour didnt do more to support the tournament. Why didnt they decide to assist the French Open and the federation since we were extremely loyal for the Ryder Cup? He asked.
The easy answer comes down to cash, like with many other Ryder Cup venues. There is cash generated to place these areas on the map once the goal of Maintaining the biggest event of golf was satisfied, but it disappears.
It might prove a storyline for Le Golf National. In accordance with the program of next year that the French Open will return into high summer, however there is no word on which path will stage the tournament nor the dimensions of its purse.
Places resonate with golf fans everywhere; The Belfry, K Club, Celtic Manor, Gleneagles and potentially Le Golf National are not places that have carved enormous places in the games folklore.
They also provide proof that business reality leaves very little room for nurturing and preserving that golfing history.
