Charlotte is rolling from a 52-17 dismantling of UMass but will face a true Tiger if they fulfill with Clemson in hostile territory. The 49ers’ victory on the Minutemen was simple as they headed in the next quarter while sophomore quarterback Chris Reynolds had tossed a pair of touchdowns in a bit more than a quarter of play. Senior running Benny LeMay led all rushers with 113 of the 338 Charlotte rushing yards in the competition. Sophomore defensive back Henry Segura added having a 49-yard pick-six in the opening quarter into the highlight reel.
The Tigers are 3-0 and ranked No. 1 in the nation as they ready to dispatch a speed bump along the way, to which they expect will soon be another national name. By the score of 41-6, Clemson throttled Syracuse in their last tune and coated the 28-point impost. Sophomore sensation Trevor Lawrence passed to get a 395 metres containing a trip into the end zone from a run, and also three touchdowns. As good as the offense was, the defense was suffocating, limiting the Orange to 172 yards a paltry 15 yards rushing, along with eight sacks.
The college soccer odds, at each of the best internet sportsbooks, are currently installing the Tigers as a 41 to 41 1/2 point home favorite. Because the 49ers have proven they can score, averaging over 47 points per game this season, it’s a tough number. But we must consider that the grade of competition they’ve played thus far is at another galaxy in comparison with the group they will be facing this week.
Charlotte’s quarterback Chris Reynolds is recorded at 5’10” and he’ll possess a swarming Clemson pass hurry into his face during the night. And although the 49ers have proven they have talent and depth at running back, I highly doubt their line will be able to holes wide enough to create any daylight to get an even decent rushing attack.
Trevor Lawrence has been successful in the passing game this year but has been uncharacteristically reckless occasionally, tossing more interceptions more than three games (5) than he did last season when he had been picked on four occasions. The 6’6″ Cartersville, Georgia product has five departure and three rushing TD’s on the season but his completion percentage has dipped nearly five percentage points from where he finished last season.
This is expected to be a bowl of ice cream for Clemson, as I cannot see how Charlotte will decode the pressure that the Tigers’ defense will probably impose on Saturday. The only way the 49ers maintain pace is if Clemson coach Dabo Swinney gives life, also calls off the dogs, inserts his backups. But if that happens, a heralded Sun Belt Conference entry was allowed by the defense of Charlotte to score 56 points two weeks ago. Visualize what the score is when, and if, Clemson’s starters get summoned into the sidelines. Lay rear the Tigers in your college football selections and the lumber this Saturday.
