The American, 15, defeat top seed and world number eight Kiki Bertens, of the Netherlands, 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 at Austria.
It was the first triumph over a top-10 player of Gauff, in an event in which she came to the draw .
I am very pleased and proud of myself, explained Gauff, who can face Germanys Andrea Petkovic from the semi-finals on Saturday.
She becomes the youngest player to achieve a since the Czech Republics Nicole Vaidisova earned at Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2004.
Through the tie-break convincingly, Gauff arrived after a tight first set. She then caught the only break of serve in the second set and held her nerve.
Its the breakthrough year at Gauffs fledgling career once she reached the last 16 at Wimbledon, which included a win over five-time former champion Venus Williams, also got to the next round in the US Open.
