Gareth Southgate explained Harry Kane within an”incredible example” to England’s young players following his hat-trick motivated them into a 4-0 win over Bulgaria.
Kane opened the scoring from Raheem Sterling’s cut-back from the first half at Wembley before netting two penalties since England continued their perfect start qualifying.
The Spurs striker’s hat-trick took him in 40 appearances for England to 25, putting him and getting praise.
“We stood and watched him take penalties for approximately 20 minutes and once you see the procedure he goes , he just gives himself every prospect of success by that willful exercise,” said Southgate.
“For a youngster to have the ability to watch what he can, being able to study him and see his professionalism and how he works at his game, it’s an amazing example.
“If you may be confident on the bench when a penalty is given, then we are as certain as we potentially could be.
“You are aware there is always a chance that the most outstanding [penalty] can be spared, but in these moments he actually has a ultimate temperament and strategy.”
Kane had a hand in England target, intercepting a Bulgaria pass and providing the cross for Sterling to convert from close variety.
“He works really tough for the group and will be more than delighted to fall in to regions to leave space for others and play moves into others,” added Southgate.
“But if he gets his second, then he simply has a great mindset and, technically, he’s a top, top finisher.
“However, I go back to the reality that’s hours and hours of training and if you speak to some of the other forwards in the group, they’d speak with you about how large an impression which has had on them and also how they practice when they return to their own clubs.
“Because sometimes you can take part in finishing practices which may be a small bit half-hearted or less concentrated as they could be, but he is on it each moment. That is where you have the transfer into the game.”
Asked how it felt to overtake Hurst from the grading charts, Kane stated:”Whenever things like that happens it is always a happy moment for me and it shows the hard work which I’m putting in is paying off.
“Hopefully I can continue scoring goals for many years to come. I place an England shirt onto it to try and score and help the group and thankfully now it went for me personally.
“When I am playing with players such as Raz (Raheem Sterling) and (Marcus) Rashford, they are going to create so many chances, they’re so great in one-v-ones, they are going to win penalties, so I’ve got to make sure I am prepared for the opportunities that come my way.”
One of those players Southgate hopes the sway of Kane will rub off is 20-year-old Mason Mount, who came from the bench for his England debut.
“It’s a fantasy to create your England introduction, you wait quite a while for this minute,” he explained. “You dream about this happening. It is always such a proud time for me personally and my family, although it is a slim likelihood it happens. It happened so fast, it is like a blur now!
“I wasn’t that nervous. I was more excited to have on the pitch. I adored every second of it. It has been a couple of months, it’s happened so fast for this instant, but I’ve loved every moment. I am enjoying learning daily, learning much from your seniors.”
