Arsenal and Spurs played a draw out to complete an exciting weekend of soccer.
Whilst name rivals Manchester City thrashed Brighton 4-0 liverpool kept up their 100% start with a 3-0 win at Burnley.
With Manchester United drawing chelsea were held 2-2 by Sheffield United.
Leicester impressed again with a win over Bournemouth, West Ham beat Norwich 2-0, Aston Villa 1-0 was seen off by Crystal Palace and Newcastle drew 1-1 with Watford. In the other game of Sunday Everton beat Wolves at a 3-2 thriller.
Here’s my group of this week have a browse and pick your own below.
I believe it’s perfectly acceptable for a goalkeeper to rely on his defensive unit just as far as his defenders can depend on him. The association between the Liverpool four and also stand-in keeper Adrian has had its good and bad moments.
Adrian’s performance against Burnley, however, was about as good as it gets. The Spanish keeper made a superb save from Chris Wood although his device made certain Adrian wasn’t needed to come to their rescue afterwards. For the first time since Adrian took over in the injured Alisson Liverpool looked comfortable. The future is beginning to look Red.
Did you know? Adrian has a 73% save percentage in the Premier League this season. Of course goalkeepers using three or more starts in 2019-20, just three have a better percent (Vicente Guaita 80%, Ederson 77% and Hugo Lloris 76 percent ).
Fabian Schar: This was a really different evaluation to the one facing Newcastle a week against Spurs. I posed the question’could the Magpies assault with the same conviction since they defended White Hart Lane?” The operation wasn’t quite convincing but great enough to include a Watford side desperate for things.
Schar played a role by Newcastle in this controlled operation. They did not fear when they went 1-0 down and he took his aim with good composure. Not bad for a centre-back.
Did you know? Since the start of 2019, five Premier League targets have been scored by Schar, more than any other Newcastle player. Four of them have come at St James’ Park.
Virgil van Dijk: It was only a matter of time before Virgil van Dijk resumed his place. This week the Dutchman has been indulging himself award ceremonies with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. I suppose if you’re going to be among the top players in the world these events have to be attended.
However it was nice to see him his tuxedo for the recognizable away colors of Liverpool Football Club from Burnley and turn into a stellar performance. To get Van Dijk, this match was a stroll at the park. Great to have you back in my group of the week, Virgil.
Did you know? Liverpool have won 73 percent of the Premier League matches when Virgil van Dijk has showcased, together with all the Reds suffering only four defeats from these 56 matches (W41 D11 L4).
Jannik Vestergaard: When Jannik Vestergaard out-jumped Victor Lindelof to nod home a brilliant headed equaliser from Manchester United, my instant thought was he wouldn’t have done that to Chris Smalling.
The former United centre-back, on loan in Roma, finds himself surplus to requirements – along with Romelu Lukaku along with Alexis Sanchez – just for United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to have the nerve to say his group is looking a bit thin. The Red Devils are appearing anything aside from devilish at the moment. The truth is they seemed insipid and unconvincing from a 10-man Southampton side that must have been put away.
Did you know? Vestergaard played with his first Premier League goal for Southampton in his 27th league appearance for the club, becoming the third largest player to score for the Saints from the Premier League, after Ronnie Ekelund and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Kevin de Bruyne: He set up the moment class and scored the first goal. The Belgium international has now contributed five assists in four matches and at this rate could find himself from the late teens and even attaining 20 within an injury-free season. This would spell disaster for Liverpool naturally. Only a thought!
Did you know? De Bruyne has been engaged in nine goals in the previous seven Premier League starts (two goals, seven assists).
Jack Grealish: I do not normally select players on the losing side but on this occasion I must make an exception. Jack Grealish not merely gave a captain’s performance against Crystal Palace but was robbed of this role he played in providing Villa with what would have been an impressive and warranted equaliser.
Kevin Friend’s shocking conclusion to disallow Henri Lansbury’s 96th-minute goal after Grealish’s colorful run ranks one of the worst decisions I’ve seen lately. What Buddy didn’t find (and I did) had been Grealish get pounded by Wilfried Zaha because he entered the box, which propelled Grealish to the ground. You truly view Zaha, with hand raised, appeal to the referee to convey no penalty. This was an outrageous decision.
Did you know? Grealish has generated the most opportunities of almost any Aston Villa participant in the Premier League this season (eight), together with all but among those coming from open play.
Roberto Firmino: I’ve mentioned it before and I’ll state it again, if Roberto Firmino is about song consequently are Liverpool. The Brazilian orchestrated a masterclass from the Merseysiders against a Burnley side who, however, for one brief event, never looked in the game.
Maybe Firmino can cure the apparent rift between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane because it would seem boss Jurgen Klopp is having difficulty. For Mane to burst so publicly, as he did being substituted after Salah had so clearly ignored him on 2 occasions in scoring positions, was fully justified. Salah can not play with this game – .
Did you know? Firmino became the first Brazilian to evaluate 50 Premier League targets. He’s the only real player to achieve the milestone for Liverpool – no additional team has had more (flat with Manchester United).
Spiritual Eriksen: After I watched Eriksen was starting this north London derby I immediately thought, Spurs can not miss this match. I was right, they did not lose the match – but they ought to have won it. Eriksen is a class act and when he is on his game you will find several better.
It was the Dane who bust a gut to catch up with the play and tap house the loose rebound in the Erik Lamela shot. Spurs look like they may hang on to Eriksen for some time longer, which can be just as well as they have no-one who will take care of the ball better. In terms of Arsenal, it’s a good job they have Matteo Guendouzi. He is a Granit Xhaka using brains.
Did you know? Eriksen has scored 50 Premier League goals – the very first Danish participant to achieve this landmark. He’s the first player to enroll both 50+ goals and assists for Spurs from the competition.
Jordan Ayew: This match was not a classic by any means but it did create discussing points. Jordan Ayew was very unlucky to not make my group of the week following his operation against Manchester United. However there’s absolutely not any doubt about his selection this week after pushing his way past Tyrone Mings to score in the 73rd minute and supply the Eagles with three points for the second consecutive week.
Mings, on the other hand, might have been included in the England squad that was current however that does not make him an England player.
Did you know? When he had been an Aston Villa player, ayew has scored for the very first time since December 2015.
Sergio Aguero: The Artful Dodger was it . Sergio Aguero has been on the prowl against a Brighton side that had the audacity to go toe to toe with Manchester City. Aguero’s two superbly taken goals not so much picked on pockets.
I can not figure out if it was hubris from Graham Potter to believe he could beat Manchester City at their own game, or if using his theme of his team playing football regardless of the 44, he wanted to continue. I have to state Brighton are currently playing football – I will give him .
Did you know? Aguero has scored 99 Premier League goals at the Etihad – only Thierry Henry in Highbury (114) and Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford (101) have scored greater at one place in Premier League history.
Jamie Vardy: Very besides his exploits under Brendan Rogers that there is little doubt about it, Jamie Vardy goes back to his best. His first aim was a finish of the highest order and his second was a heist. When he had been in charge Exactly what Claude Puel did to the kind of the lad should call into question his ability to handle at any level.
As Bournemouth, they ought to have been playing against a 10-man Leicester for. The attack with Youri Tielemans on Callum Wilson was a shocker. I don’t care if the participant wasn’t seeking or, the handle was mistimed, it had been reckless and he ought to have gone.
Did you know? Vardy was directly involved in 14 goals in 14 Premier League games under Brendan Rodgers (12 goals, two assists).
You have seen my choices. However, that would you opt for?
Select your XI.
Is it me or has the quality of refereeing in the Premier League fallen? When I’ve observed so many outrageous decisions produced by the man in the middle so early in the 24, I can not recall. That I feel it’s generated uncertainty among our officials, although There’s not any doubt in my mind that VAR has created a enormous difference to this game’s dynamic.
It should be the referee’s decision that’s final. Not VAR.
If each single time you make it can not be helpful. Referees deserve our protection. Uefa’s strategy must be followed by the Premier League and provide an opportunity to see replays from the field in case of an obvious error or a contentious issue to the referee, and allow him to determine whether his decision was wrong or right.
