Arsenal and Spurs played a draw out to finish off a thrilling weekend of football.
While title rivals Manchester City thrashed Brighton 4-0 liverpool kept their 100% start up with a 3-0 triumph at Burnley.
Chelsea were held 2-2 by Sheffield United, with Manchester United drawing 1-1 in Southampton.
Leicester impressed again with a win over Bournemouth, West Ham beat Norwich 2-0, Crystal Palace found off Aston Villa 1-0 and Newcastle drew 1-1 with Watford. In the other match of Sunday Everton beat Wolves at a 3-2 thriller.
Here is my group of the week have a read and pick your own below.
I believe that it’s perfectly okay for a goalkeeper to rely on his device as much as his defenders can depend on him. The association between keeper Adrian and the back four has had its good and bad moments.
Adrian’s functionality against Burnley, however, was about as good as it gets. The Spanish keeper made a great save from Chris Wood while his device made certain Adrian was not needed to come to their rescue afterwards. For the very first time because Adrian took over in the wounded Alisson Liverpool appeared comfortable. The future is beginning to seem Red.
Did you know? Adrian includes a 73% save percentage in the Premier League this season. Of course goalkeepers with three or more starts in 2019-20, just three have a greater percent (Vicente Guaita 80 percent, Ederson 77 percent and Hugo Lloris 76 percent ).
Fabian Schar: This was a very different evaluation to the one facing Newcastle a week from Spurs. I posed the question’would the Magpies assault with the same certainty as they defended White Hart Lane?” The operation wasn’t quite persuasive but great enough to include a Watford side desperate for points.
Schar played a role by Newcastle in the controlled , professional operation. They did not fear when they went 1-0 down and he took his goal. Not bad for a centre-back.
Did you know? Since the start of 2019, Schar has scored five Premier League targets, more than every other present Newcastle player. Four of these have come at St James’ Park.
Virgil van Dijk: It was only a matter of time before Virgil van Dijk resumed his place. This week that the Dutchman has been indulging himself at award ceremonies with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. I suppose if you are likely to be one of the best players on the planet these events have to be appreciated.
Nevertheless it was nice to see him his tuxedo for the familiar away colours of Liverpool Football Club from Burnley and turn into a top notch performance. For Van Dijk, this match was a stroll at the park. Good to have you back into my group of this week.
Did you know? Liverpool have won 73 percent of the Premier League games when Virgil van Dijk is now featured, with the Reds suffering just four defeats from those 56 matches (W41 D11 L4).
Jannik Vestergaard: After Jannik Vestergaard out-jumped Victor Lindelof to nod home a dazzling headed equaliser from Manchester United, my instant thought was that he wouldn’t have done that to Chris Smalling.
The former United centre-back, on loan at Roma, finds himself surplus to needs – together with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez – only for United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to then have the nerve to state his group is looking somewhat thin. The Red Devils are looking anything aside from devilish at the moment. Actually they seemed insipid and unconvincing from a 10-man Southampton side who should have been put away.
Did you know? Vestergaard played with his first Premier League goal for Southampton in his 27th league appearance for the team, getting the third Danish player to score for the Saints from the Premier League, following Ronnie Ekelund and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Kevin de Bruyne: He also scored the first goal and set up the second at a functionality that just oozed class. The Belgium international has now contributed five assists in four games and at this speed could find himself from the late teenagers and even reaching 20 in an injury-free season. This could spell disaster for Liverpool naturally. Only a thought!
Did you know? De Bruyne was engaged in nine goals in his past seven Premier League begins (two goals, seven assists).
Jack Grealish: I do not normally pick players on the losing side but on this occasion I must make an exception. Jack Grealish not merely gave a captain’s performance against Crystal Palace but has been robbed of the role he played in providing Villa with what would have been a remarkable and warranted equaliser.
Kevin Buddy’s shocking decision to disallow Henri Lansbury’s 96th-minute target after Grealish’s excellent run positions one of the worst decisions I’ve seen lately. What Buddy didn’t view (and I did) was Grealish get pounded by Wilfried Zaha since he entered the box, which propelled Grealish to the ground. You actually view Zaha, with hand raised, appeal to the Army to say no punishment. This was truly an outrageous decision.
Did you know? Grealish has created the most possibilities of any Aston Villa player in the Premier League this season (eight), with all but among these coming from play.
Roberto Firmino: I have said it before and I’ll state it again, if Roberto Firmino is about song consequently are Liverpool. The Brazilian orchestrated a masterclass by the Merseysiders from a Burnley side , but for a brief event, never appeared at the match.
Perhaps Firmino can cure the apparent rift between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane since it might appear boss Jurgen Klopp is having trouble. For Mane to explode publicly, as he did in being substituted later Salah had so clearly ignored him on two occasions after in scoring places, was completely justified. Salah can not play this sport in his own – a stage Firmino clearly knows.
Did you know? Firmino became the first Brazilian to evaluate 50 Premier League goals. He is the ninth player to accomplish the milestone for Liverpool – no additional club has had more (level with Manchester United).
Spiritual Eriksen: After I watched Eriksen was starting this north London derby I immediately thought, Spurs can not miss this match. I was right, they did not lose the game – but they need to have won it. Eriksen is a class activity and if he’s on his game there are few better.
It had been the Dane who bust a gut to catch up with the play and tap the loose rebound in the Erik Lamela shot. Spurs look like they may hang on to Eriksen for a little while longer, which will be just too because they have nobody that can take care of the ball . As for Arsenal, it’s a fantastic job. He’s a Granit Xhaka using brains.
Did you know? Eriksen has scored 50 Premier League goals – the very first Danish participant to achieve this landmark. He is the first participant to enroll 50+ goals and aids for Spurs from the contest.
Jordan Ayew: This match was not a classic by any means but it did produce discussing points. Jordan Ayew was really unlucky not to make my team of the week following his execution against Manchester United. However there’s no doubt about his selection this week after forcing his way beyond Tyrone Mings to score in the 73rd minute and supply the Eagles with three points for the second consecutive week.
Mings, on the other hand, might have been contained from the England squad that was current but that does not make him an England player.
Did you know? Ayew has scored in back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since December 2015, when he was an Aston Villa player.
Sergio Aguero: The Artful Dodger was at it again. Sergio Aguero was on the prowl from a Brighton side who had the audacity to go toe to toe with Manchester City. Aguero’s two superbly not picked pockets.
I can not work out if it was hubris from Graham Potter to believe if he wished to continue using his subject of his group playing football, or he can beat Manchester City at their very own game. I must state Brighton are playing soccer – I’ll give to him.
Did you know? Aguero has scored 99 Premier League goals at the Etihad – just Thierry Henry at Highbury (114) and Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford (101) have scored more at one venue in Premier League history.
Jamie Vardy apart from his exploits under Brendan Rogers that there is little doubt concerning it, Jamie Vardy goes right back to his very best. His first goal was a finish of the maximum order and his second was a heist. When he had been in charge what Claude Puel did for the kind of this lad must call into question his ability to handle any level.
As for Bournemouth, they should have been playing with a 10-man Leicester. The attack by Youri Tielemans on Callum Wilson has been a shocker. I don’t care whether the participant was not looking or, the tackle was mistimed, it was reckless and he ought to have gone.
Did you know? Vardy was directly engaged in 14 goals in 14 Premier League games under Brendan Rodgers (12 goals, two assists).
You’ve seen my choices. However, who would you go for?
Pick your XI.
Is it me or has the quality of refereeing from the Premier League dropped? I can not remember so many decisions made by the man in the midst early in the 24, when I’ve seen. That I also feel it has generated uncertainty, although There’s little doubt in my head that VAR has created a massive difference to this dynamic of this sport.
It should be the referee’s decision that’s final. Not VAR.
It cannot be useful if each single time you decided you’re wondering what VAR has ever seen. Referees deserve our protection. The Premier League must follow the approach of Uefa and give an opportunity to view replays from the specialized area in case of a clear mistake or a issue to the referee, and allow him to determine whether his first decision was wrong or right.
