Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett storm to US Open doubles final; Andy Lapthorne on a roll

A sweep was of victory for gamers in the united states Open as Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid hauled their way in their men’s doubles last while the world toppled No 2 in the branch in under one hour.
In a rematch of the two doubles finals defending winners Hewett and Reid dropped four points at the first four matches. They continued their domination speed over Nicolas Peifer and duo Stephane Houdet.
“It is not exactly what we expected to happen but I’m happy we can win with that scoreline and in that style,” Reid told Sky Sports. “Of course we know when we play well we could put people off but to be honest I do not think that was what occurred in that first group, I believe we only did the basics well and maybe got off to a quicker start than those.”
It was a game where the work they had been putting in out of also one and competition where consistency was the key to their own success was demonstrated by them.
“I felt we were quite powerful at the beginning and we didn’t give away too many cheap things and once we do that we create opportunities so in the next group when they gave us a lot more to think about we responded well, did not get tight and just played our game,” said Hewett.
They will face Gustavo Fernandez and Shingo Kunieda at Saturday’s last and want to make it a hat-trick of names in New York.
Out on court , Lapthorne was also working his magic from David Wagner, shooting 59 minutes to dispatch that the 6-1 – his comprehensive win over Wagner in their 62 livelihood meetings.
“Hard work pays off and to begin to finally perform the manner I have been doing day in, day out in training is really special,” explained Lapthorne.
“You will find glimpses of it at Wimbledon and the British Open and since then I’ve had a excellent week training in Tokyo and also to translate what I’ve been doing about the practice court to a big stage against a good player I’ve put myself in a fantastic place to hopefully move into the number two spot in the rankings.”
It was a performance that found fist-pumps a plenty in one and the Brit at which he seemed calm and collected from start to finish.
“I don’t understand what it is but since the harm I’ve come back and I am becoming a lot more nervous than I used to,” he said. “Maybe it is because when you’re out because of an injury you realise how far you miss it.
“For me though it is just understanding that when I get anxious I play well so I am not hoping to get rid of the nerves, I’m just accepting them.”
