Jurgen Klopp unhappy with Napoli penalty call in Liverpool defeat

Jurgen Klopp was less than pleased with the penalty decision which helped Napoli into a triumph over his Liverpool side.
Jose Callejon went down under minimum stress but the well-placed runner gave a spot-kick, and the VAR officer chose against the decision.
That allowed Dries Mertens to open the scoring in a match Liverpool had been largely comfy in, and in the dying moments, they added another goal to seal victory.
“For me it’s very clear and clear, no penalty, since Callejon jumps until he has any touch,” Klopp said. “However, we cannot alter that so we have to be critical . We did in lots of moments, we played with with a lot of very good football but we didn’t finish off.
“From the second half we had this wild match, we were operating, they were conducting. They’ve killed everybody on the pitch, began controlling again and then we’ve conceded a penalty.
“Obviously that does not help and I have seen it today, I don’t think that is a penalty.”
Klopp was unhappy with his misfiring ahead, whose drama was far below their normal standard and forced only two actual saves from Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret around the 90 minutes.
“We controlled it in moments, but we had not enough opportunities in the long run,” Klopp said. “Everything you saw was lots of admiration from both sides, we equally defended well and every ball we dropped, or else they lost, was instantly a threat.
“The previous ball is easily the most difficult ball anyhow, and if you are not in the right circumstances it’s even more difficult. And therefore there were moments when we must have done , for sure.”
