Steve Smith has regained top spot in the ICC Test.
Smith missed the next Ashes Test at Headingley however has toppled Kohli following the latter listed a duck in the second innings of both the series-sealing 257-run of India over West Indies at Jamaica.
The Australian leads the way with points, to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson in position to 878 points along with 903 points a place back with Kohli.
Smith – who’s scored 144, 142 and 92 in his three innings in this Ashes series – could add to his tally through the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford this week however Kohli is not back in Test action until India sponsor South Africa in October.
Smith initially became No 1 at December 2015 if Smith was due to his one-year ban following the ball-tampering scandal, but he was overtaken by Kohli in August 2018.
Four locations have climbed from 11th to seventh.
Jasprit Bumrah and Jason Holder have climbed with Bumrah up from seventh to Holder and third moving from 11th to fourth, into the top five of their Test bowling rankings.
India seamer Bumrah picked up six wickets, including a hat-trick, in West Indies’ first innings at Jamaica, while 5-77 was bagged by Windies skipper Holder in India’s opening dig.
Australia’s Pat Cummins (908 points) tops the standings, followed closely by South Africa’a Kagiso Rabada (851) and also Bumrah (835), together with Holder and James Anderson tied for fourth (814).
Holder remains the Major all-rounder, together with Ben Stokes, Shakib Al Hasan, Ravindra Jadeja and Vernon Philander rounding out the top five.
