Because the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots see, the marquee matchup of Week 1 can also be the very first Sunday night game of the season. This is why we like the home side.
Celebrate that name, Today, the Super Bowl champion is designed to open the year in the Thursday night Kickoff Game at home and then place it in the rearview mirror for good.
However, with this being the 100th anniversary year the league opted to put its oldest competition from the Kickoff Game of the NFL.
The New England Patriots will have to wait till Sunday night to observe this Tom Brady & Bill Belichick Era’s album first Super Bowl title.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be the opponent as they seem to conquer Brady on the street for the first time. More on this soon. Maybe it’s a good thing that Patriots aren’t since the last time they hosted it in 2017 in the Kickoff Game, they were treated quite easily from the Kansas City Chiefs.
This will not count as you can, although that is New England’s only loss in four Kickoff Games.
This is the fourth time in franchise history that the Patriots open a season against the Steelers. Additionally they did in 1979, 2002 and 2015 — ???15 games and that the ???02 were when the Patriots were coming from a Super Bowl win.
They would win both of these games but lost in 1979. It is the fifth straight-regular period these clubs play New England top 4-1. The Patriots’ final loss overall (non-preseason version) was 15 last year, 17-10 at Pittsburgh if Brady threw an uncharacteristic late interception deep in Steelers territory.
It’s the 33rd meeting and it is tied in 16.
It’s a new era for the Steelers as they start life without two of their best players in their place in the NFL in All-Pro running back star receiver Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. They’re using Raiders and the Jets , respectively.
Pittsburgh is accustomed to playing without Bell James Conner demonstrated a replacement and as he sat out last year all and about 1,500 yards from scrimmage in 13 games. He will continue being the bell-cow at 2019.
Technically, the Steelers are used to playing without Brown and he was benched for Week 17 final year because of his antics that are selfish. After Baltimore edged Cleveland to maintain the AFC North pittsburgh won this game but still missed the playoffs.
Ben Roethlisberger has a fine Brown substitute in JuJu Smith-Schuster, who caught 111 balls for 1,426 yards (possibly more than Brown) and seven scores last year. James Washington should be more involved since the newest No. 2.
Defensively, the Steelers will unveil two new linebackers in inclusion Mark Barron and first-round pick Devin Bush . The Steelers are raving about Bush, who has 4.4 40-yard rate. He is the next Ryan Shazier of the team.
At most of SBR’s top-rated sportsbooks, the Patriots are either tied with or only marginally behind the Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIV in Miami on the first Sunday of February. And why don’t you? Sure, Rob Gronkowski is retired (we think he returns after this year ), however Brady and Belichick remain there.
Brady also will have a full season of receiver Josh Gordon reinstated from suspension. But, first-round receiver N’Keal Harry begins the year on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least half the year.
Furthermore, starting center David Andrews, an anchor in front of Brady for years, will miss the season after being hospitalized because of blood clots. The team probably will start Ted Karras in your center.
Selected with the 221st pick from the 2016 NFL Draft, Karras has played in 45 games — beginning from five. There’s also the opportunity it is Russell Bodine, who has begun 74 NFL matches in his career and had been recently obtained in trade.
New England is 5-1 at Gillette Stadium vs Pittsburgh. That loss came from the 2008 regular period when Brady was out injured.
He’s 11-3 against the Steelers including drama and has NEVER lost to them at home. That’s surprising. The Pats had won five straight.
We like New England with a touchdown.
